What is Fit-Band?
Fit-Band training is a form of strength training using elastic bands that is slow, controlled and safe. Studies have shown that regular resistance training can help improve muscle strength, balance, coordination, flexibility and range of motion. At the same time, this type of exercise helps fight bone loss and can potentially ease the symptoms of arthritis pain.
Surprisingly, many adults over the age of 70 aren’t reaping these benefits. Approximately 40 percent of women and 30 percent of men in that age group report that they don’t exercise at all. The American Heart Association recommends that older adults (age 65 and older) aim for a minimum of 2 ½ hours of physical activity per week, including resistance exercises at least two days every week.

How does the program work?
To counter the natural trend towards less exercise as we age, ApexCare created our Fit-Band exercise program for older adults. This program utilizes simple and safe resistance band training exercises to keep our clients active and to help them counter the natural age-related progression of muscle and bone deterioration.
ApexCare’s office team will develop a customized exercise program that will be included in the client’s Plan of Care (POC). Our caregivers will follow the exercise program and work with the client one-on-one to ensure that the program is appropriate and safe. In most cases, each exercise session may be as short as 5-10 minutes or as long as the client desires. Our caregivers have been trained and instructed to report the success and outcomes of all specialty programs on a regular basis so we can continue to evaluate the effectiveness of each of our programs.
