What is the Caregiver's scope of work?
Caregivers may provide light housekeeping, transportation, meal preparation, medication monitoring, personal care and supervision, incontinence care, and assistance with ambulation and transfers.

What is "light housekeeping"?
Light housekeeping includes cleaning and maintaining the living areas, washing dishes, Client's personal laundry, and changing linens. It would not include moving furniture, washing windows, scrubbing or waxing floors, scouring toilets, tubs and sinks, and shampooing carpets.

Will the Caregiver provide pet care?
The Caregiver may clean up after an indoor pet for an extra fee but will not clean up after an outside pet. Any pet care that can be serviced out should be.

Should the Caregiver make calls from my phone?
The Caregiver should only make or receive calls while on duty if it is work related or an emergency. You should also place a block on your phone for long distance and toll calls to protect yourself from unauthorized charges.

Who completes service records?
The Caregiver completes the service record daily and the Client or Responsible Party must approve and sign it daily.

How will I be billed?
The Caregiver turns in the daily signed Service Record to ApexCare each Monday. Statements will be generated from the Service Records and mailed weekly on Wednesday. Payments are due upon receipt of the statement. A late fee will be charged if the payments are more than 5 days past due.

Can The agreement and rate change?
Due to changes in the level of care and scope of work, ApexCare or the Client may change the agreement or rate, subject to mutual agreement, with 2 days written notice.

What do I do if the Caregiver gets hurt while working in my home?
You should immediately report the incident to ApexCare. We carry Worker's Compensation Insurance to cover work related injuries.

What protection do I have from theft by a Caregiver?

ApexCare is bonded for $10,000 for employee dishonesty. You should always secure your valuables and refrain from giving gifts or loans to Caregivers. ApexCare is not responsible for the return or repayment of any loans or gifts given willingly by the Client.

What happens if I ask the Caregiver to work overtime or on holidays?
You will be charged for overtime or holiday pay as it applies. Overtime is defined as working over 8 hours per day or over 40 hours per week. No Caregiver should work more than 6 days a week on an hourly assignment or more than 5 live-in days a week. Overtime is 1.5 to 2 times the regular pay depending on the length of overtime. Holiday pay is 1.5 times the regular pay.

Where should my live-in Caregiver sleep?
Labor laws state that the sleeping quarters should be occupied alone. A separate bedroom is preferred but a room that has been sectioned off is acceptable as long as privacy is offered. Clean linens should be provided.

Should the Caregiver get breaks?
Caregivers working an hourly shift of more than 5 hours are entitled to a 30-minute meal break and for every 4 hour of work, a 10-minute break is allowed. In addition, a live-in Caregiver should have 8 hours of sleep and two 30-minute meal breaks.

Should I provide meals for the Caregiver?

Meals should be provided for Caregivers working longer than a 12 hour shift. Labor laws state that the meals must be nutritious and balanced. The rate you pay for a live-in shift is reduced because there is a credit amount factored in for three meals per day. Caregivers should purchase their own snacks.

Can I use another Caregiver sent by ApexCare's Caregiver?
You should first check with ApexCare to see if the other Caregiver is authorized to work for us. Hiring someone that has not been screened or authorized by ApexCare would cause you to be responsible for all taxes, Worker's Compensation Insurance and assume the full liability of an employer. ApexCare will not be responsible for any unauthorized Caregivers.

What quality assurance is provided?
Our Case Managers periodically make "drop by" visits and calls to see how the case is going as well as make observations of the Client's condition.

Who do I call to discuss my case?
You can call us toll free anytime, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at
(800)287-9111, or e-mail us at care@ApexCare.com
