What is Conscious Touch?
Conscious or therapeutic touch was first developed in the 1970’s as a non-medical complementary method to help individuals with physical and mental pain and suffering. Conscious Touch is not a substitute or replacement for any medical procedures for dealing with pain. Rather, Conscious Touch is a simple methodology of using human contact to bring comfort and relaxation to all individuals.
Many of us take for granted the importance of the physical contact we have with our family and friends. Older adults are especially at risk of losing the day-to-day human contact that most of us experience every day due to our active lifestyles. We believe that the Conscious Touch program can be a positive force in the lives of our older adults.

How does the program work?
ApexCare® has multiple staff members and caregivers who have received or are receiving basic training in touch therapy through Healing Hands - Healing Hearts. Our staff and caregivers are not certified therapists, but rather professionals who have been trained to understand and perform basic concepts of Touch Therapy. The training that our staff undergoes is a 4-hour course that enables our staff and caregivers to utilize this training in helping our clients benefit from Touch Therapy.
Our staff and caregivers are always aware of the condition and environment for all of our clients. We are proactively using our knowledge of Touch Therapy to bring this benefit to those clients that can benefit from this service. We are also committed to providing training to caregivers who actively work with clients that may benefit. In those cases, where we believe our client would benefit from a professional touch therapist, we have a relationship with Healing Hearts – Healing Hands, who will coordinate a professional touch therapist to visit our client in their home.
